These remarkable turquoise earrings feature handmade copper charms that are imprinted with a spiral from a real fossilized ammonite. They are topped with deep orange, faceted carnelians. The "Copper Canyon Earrings" will add a distinctive flair to your look!

The "Copper Canyon Earrings" feature handcrafted square copper charms by Kristi Bowman of Dream Some. The deeply textured ammonite charms are handmade with copper metal clay. Working with the copper clay, the artist pressed a real fossilized ammonite into the copper clay. The clay then was then kiln-fired, becoming pure copper. Afterward, a torch flame was applied, resulting in an amazing patina that beautifully highlights the ammonite texture. The copper charms are sealed for lasting beauty.

Turquoise and carnelian are a classic color combination, reminiscent of jewelry from the American Southwest. I purchased the turquoise from a Native American bead collector that I knew on the Yakima Indian Reservation, in eastern Washington. Although matched in size, each piece of turquoise is unique in shape, adding visual interest to the already intriguing copper dangles. I topped the turquoise with 4 mm faceted rounds of carnelian, in a blazing dark orange, as fiery as a southwest sunset! The earrings are finished with handcrafted brass ear wires that have a warm brown patina.
