INSTRUCTIONS:
Leaf and flower blends are best enjoyed when properly prepared. This will ensure your maximum benefit and enjoyment.
- Pour one 1 cup of boiled water over 1 teaspoon of herbs.
- Cover tightly and allow to steep for 7 minutes.
- Strain and enjoy.

I make a large concentrated batch, refrigerate and enjoy diluted with additional water. This way you don't have to make cup after cup and can enjoy iced tea all week long. I've included a large amount of information about the herbs included in my tisanes (herbal tea) so that you can stay informed about what you're putting into your bodies. You'll be amazed at all of the healthy benefits that come from drinking herbal tea. Especially interesting is the information on Stevia, which is used to sweeten my tisanes.
Brew up a pot and enjoy!
If you're not sure if these blends will be to your liking, order a sampler of tea bags. You'll find them under 'Samples' in my categories.

Organic Hibiscus flowers - Known to help digestive problems, and to help soothe the nerves. The Journal of Human Hypertension published an article that showed that drinking hibiscus tea can reduce the blood pressure in people with type 2 diabetes. Regular consumption of hibiscus teas often lowers blood pressure, typically 8 to 12 mm/Hg. Hibiscus is also the source of the hydroxycitric acid (HCA, or hydroxycut) used in many diet formulas. This compound has been long used to fight obesity. It fights appetite and encourages weight loss not by increasing energy expenditure but by encouraging the "wasting" of carbohydrates.

Organic Rosehips - Rose hips develop on wild roses as the flowers drop off. The rose hip, also called the rose haw, is actually the fruit of the rose. They are one of the most concentrated sources of vitamin C available. In addition to C, rose hips also contain A, D and E, as well as antioxidant flavonoids that may reduce the effects of aging and help prevent cancer. All this is wrapped up in the tart-sweet taste of the miniature fruits. The iron in rose hips make them an excellent supplement for menstruating women, and rose hip tea is a rich source of vitamin C, carrying all the benefits of that vitamin. In addition, the various flavonoids in rose hips have potent antioxidant action, helping to protect the body from the effects of stress, aging and the environment.

Organic Lemongrass - The herb stimulates perspiration and thus cools the body in summer and helps to lower fevers any time of year. It acts as a sedative an analgesic, and to relieve spasms and muscle cramps. Lemon grass grows wild in Indonesia, Indochina, and tropical Australia, and has been cultivated in Southeast Asia and Sri Lanka as a culinary herb and in India as a medicinal herb for thousands of years. It was considered by Paracelsus to be a cure-all and was his favorite and most revered herb.

Organic Orange peel - Orange peel acts as anti-inflammatory due to the high flavonoid content, and as an anti-bacterial and anti-microbial agent. One of the major components of Orange Peel (d-limonene) has been reported to have anti-carcinogenic activities and further studies are being conducted. The little known fact is that there are substantially more enzymes, flavonoids, and phyto-nutrients in the peel of the Orange rather than the fruit. The peel is where all the essential components accumulate. Here is an example of where choosing Organic as opposed to conventional farming methods makes a significant difference. When a crop is sprayed with insecticides, it is the rind of the orange that is coated with and absorbs the chemicals. Using organic citrus peel ensures that you are only getting the healthy components, and not the unwanted chemicals.

Organic Spearmint - Spearmint, like peppermint, is a digestive remedy. It relieves gas and indigestion, is anti-inflammatory, and stops gastrointestinal spasms. Unlike peppermint, spearmint is also diuretic. It may also be helpful in reducing fevers and easing respiratory problems and chronic bronchitis.

Organic Rose petals - The American Botanical Council reports that rose petals have sedative, antiseptic, anti-parasitic, anti-inflammatory, laxative, cholesterol-lowering, and heart-supportive properties. Psychological studies indicate that rose oil can induce "sweeter dreams" and increase concentration and rate of work capacity.

Organic Stevia - Stevia is one of a family of plants that are native to South America and have been used for centuries to sweeten drinks and foods. Stevia leaves are said to be from 30 to 300 times sweeter than sugar, though the amount of sweetness varies from leaf to leaf and plant to plant. It is touted as a natural alternative to artificial sweeteners. To date, chemical analysis and studies show that the leaf adds no calories, has no harmful side effects and is more palatable with less aftertaste than any artificial, chemical sweetener to date.

The Story: My hubby and I wanted to help him stop drinking soda and fruit juices because of the calories and sugar they contained. Like a lot of people, plain water just wasn't doing it for him. After some research we tried a few herbal teas and found a few that he loved. He loved them so much that I came up with some recipes so that he could enjoy them at a better cost and convenience for both of us. By replacing the herbal tea for soda/juice, he found he lost weight easier. Unexpected and happy benefit! I actually make these in a tea machine called the TriniTea. It's like a coffee maker in that it's automatic. You put the water in the top, put the herbal tea blend or green tea in the brewing basket and the carafe goes on bottom. Choose high or low water temp, time for steeping, turn it on and walk away! It beeps to tell you the water has boiled and is being dispensed into the steeping chamber, beeps to let you know it's going into the carafe, and 3 more beeps to let you know it's done. Then it stays in warming mode until you turn it off. No fuss, no over steeping, easy clean up. Adagio Teas sells them online.
