This is a digital stamp of the Wicked Witch of the West, sitting in a chair on her doorstep, from the original 1900 edition of the Wizard of Oz, illustrated by William Wallace Denslow. She looks very different than the version immortalized by Margaret Hamilton in the 1939 movie, but I think that is part of the charm of this image. Baum does not actually describe the Witch much with words, other than to mention she has only one eye ("as powerful as a telescope") and the old umbrella "she always carried in her hand", and so Denslow's illustrations are what give us a sense of what she looks like. I love her outfit with the skirt that has a frog and a snake and a moon on it, and the tall hat with a face upon it.

This stamp would be great for any Oz themed crafts you have - just resize it to fit your needs and print it out. This digital stamp is also available as part of a 13 stamp set of illustrations by Denslow. Please check my studio for the set if you prefer!

Inspiration/Story Behind This Product
Now the Wicked Witch of the West had but one eye, yet that was as powerful as a telescope, and could see everywhere. So, as she sat in the door of her castle, she happened to look around and saw Dorothy lying asleep, with her friends all about her. They were a long distance off, but the Wicked Witch was angry to find them in her country; so she blew upon a silver whistle that hung around her neck.
