African Trade Bead Necklace Knotted OOAK Brass Bone

Quantity: 1 available
Product Description
Primitive and tribal, my hand knotted African Trade Bead necklace exudes the character of far away places where people wear colorful costumes and adornments made by their own hand. I use glass trade beads, Indonesian glass beads and bone beads to add color and dimension to this rustic design. The lower two strands of beads are hand knotted on waxed cotton cord and connected to antiqued brass ring connectors. The length of the necklace is 30 (the shorter strand) and 34 inches (the longer strand), with a large antique brass lobster clasp.
Inspiration/Story Behind This Product
A friend brought some sandcast beads home from Africa. The centuries old process of making them and the wonderful colors they used intrigued me. She asked me to make several pieces of jewelry for her. So I procured these decorative small trade beads to use in the pieces I designed for my friend, and along the way came up with this idea for a necklace to share on Artfire.
Materials Used
African trade beads, Indonesian glass beads, bone, brass, waxed cotton thread
