RESERVED. If you are looking for a rich pair of earrings in purple, then look no farther than VIOLETTI! These glorious handmade earrings were create with purple recycled glass and fancy copper and sterling beads. A fun pair of one of a kind (OOAK) earrings for anytime, they were carefully crafted by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs and will make a fabulous addition to a handmade jewelry collection!

The beautiful recycled glass used in VIOLETTI were hand cut and faceted - no two are exactly the same. I picked two pieces that were very close in size and shape for these earrings. The glass is actually clear glass that was coated with a sparkly frosted matte finish in a luscious shade of purple, reminding me greatly of sea glass. You can see the clear glass if you look straight on near the bead holes (although in the photos, the glass picks up the purple color). The clear sides seem to capture and magnify the light, causing the purple to glow when the earrings are worn. The finish is there to stay. I tested it with first trying to scrape it with my fingernail and then with a knife - none came off. The recycled glass beads were wired with pure copper wire and two 3mm copper bead accents on each side. As you can see in the photos, the glass appears different in different light. Photos #1 and #4 are in natural sunlight. The other photos were taken in shade.

To add a wallop of panache to the VIOLETTI earrings, I wire wrapped two fancy copper and sterling beads to the top of the earrings. The copper and sterling beads are called "fancy" because of the fabulous raised design created on them, called "silver relief". The main body of the beads are pure copper with a very rich sheen. Fine sterling wires and dots of sterling silver were carefully applied to the copper by hand to create the incredibly intricate silver relief design! Such beautiful texture! The copper beads are an unusual triangular shape with three sides.

The main body of the earrings were wire wrapped in a rustic manner to sterling silver French hook earwires. A 3mm copper bead was added to each earwire to tie in the two metals. A perfect finish to a stunning pair of earrings!

Although man-made, glass carries the energies of transformation, rebirth and communication. Copper is said to allow the wearer to recognize the barriers which are in the path of personal development. Silver is the metal of love and healing.

Combining purple and copper is a favorite of mine. I wanted to do something a bit different with these earrings so decided to wire the earrings from side to side instead of the normal bottom to top. Because of the glitter in the finish of the glass, the fancy copper beads with the silver relief seemed a perfect match, the silver dots mimicking the spots of glitter.

By the way, "VIOLETTI" is Finnish for "purple". The word looks more Italian to me! LOL!
