FOREST MEDLEY is a handmade, gemstone necklace that evokes the verdancy of a walk through a summer forest. This beaded beauty was created with glowing prehnite nuggets, hematite and sterling silver. Carefully crafted by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, FOREST MEDLEY is definitely a one of a kind (OOAK) necklace for the discriminating woman who enjoys unique pieces of jewelry in their collection.

When I first saw the strand of prehnite that eventually became FOREST MEDLEY, I was awestruck at the luminous quality - the stones seemed to glow on their own! I knew the stones were coming home with me. The color is a beautiful light grass green with natural black amphabole inclusions scattered throughout the individual stones. The inclusions remind me of bits of darker moss on brighter green foliage. The prehnite nuggets are a soft rectangular shape. Since they were hand formed (as opposed to macine cut), each one is a little different from the other, which adds a great amount of interest in my opinion. A group of five prehnite nuggets form the front of the necklace, followed by groups of three nuggets. The finish of the nuggets is a high gloss which catches and reflects the light. Oxidized 2mm sterling silver 2mm separate each nugget in the necklace. I oxidized the sterling beads to mimic the amphabole inclusions.

To complement the green and to also highlight the darker inclusion, I chose very shiny hematite discs. The luster of the discs is amazing, adding more shine to FOREST MEDLEY. A hematite disc was used to separate each grouping of prehnite nuggets. The last 2.5"/6.4 cm on each side of the necklace was finished with groupings of three discs separated by 2mm oxidized sterling beads.

A gorgeously decorated sterling silver s-clasp was used to complete the necklace. The slightly oxidized clasp was attached to the ends of the necklace with sterling silver crimp tubes. The tubes were then covered with sterling crimp covers that mimic 3mm sterling beads. A perfect finish for a stunning necklace!

Prehnite is very long-wearing and durable gemstone. It is a very strong protective stone and is said to bring powerful calming energies to the wearer. Encouraging analytical thinking, it helps to dispel unpleasant memories. Hematite is called the "stone of mental mastery" because it is believed to aid in clarity, balance and calm reasoning. It helps the wearer to realize that the only limitations which exist are those self-limiting concepts within the mind. Silver is the metal of love and healing.
