This is a beautiful, translucent Mandarin Garnet cabochon in 100% copper setting on a 24 inch 100% Antiqued Copper 3.3mm Curb Chain with Antiqued Copper style rose Toggle Clasp.

From Gemstones of the World by Walter Schumann: "[Garnet] is a group of differently colored minerals with similar crystal structure and related chemical composition. The main representatives are pyrope, almandite and spessartite, grossularite, andradite, and uvarovite. The name derives from the Latin for grain because of the rounded crystals and similarity to the red kernals of the pomegranate.

Spessartite in the Garnet Group - the color of this group of Garnet is Orange to red-brown. Its name is derived from its occurrence in the Spessart (=forest), Germany. Deposits are found in Berma (Myanmar), Brazil, China, Kenya, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and the US."
