This is one of my favorite pictures of New Orleans. This 8 X 10 print features one of the hidden courtyards you can see while wandering around the French Quarter. Hidden far in the back, by a sun washed yellow wall is a single bicycle and small table and chairs. It appears perfect for an afternoon Café au lait. When I saw it, I knew it was a frame I had to capture.

The French Quarter, is also known as the Vieux Carré. Despite its traditional European military grid layout, it feels at times like a bit of a maze where one beautiful building blends into another. As you walk the streets, many buildings have hidden passages that run back to open courtyards with fountains, tables, and hidden gardens or pools. As you walk the smell of Creole cooking wafts through the air along with the sounds of traditional jazz, barrel house piano and delta blues.

This is the oldest neighborhood in the city of New Orleans, founded in 1718 Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville. I personally love to start my journey to "the quarter" by riding the historic New Orleans street car through the garden district past Audubon park Tulane and Loyal universities and the myriad of Greek revival homes that border the wide live oak lined streets.

The French quarter is a beautiful gem in Louisiana. I try to give you just a glimpse of many of these classic frames in my Pictures of New Orleans series. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. I also hope that for just a moment, you can feel transported to a perfect sunny afternoon in a hidden courtyard for that fresh cup of café au lait.
