There are 2 layers of heavy fleece interfacing, and 2 layers of stiffer interfacing to provide superior padding and protection from scratches, bumps and bruises. This makes a comfortably cushioned surface to hold your e-reader in your lap while using it, or to protect it while it sits on a table top or other hard surface.
