This beautiful and unique one of a kind necklace features a polymer clay dragon and purple Iris flowers. I call this piece Mei's Flowers and it was created for the Polymer Clay Smooshers guild's May Flowers Challenge. This sweet little purple dragon is named Mei, and these pretty purple Irises are her flowers. The dragon was inspired by Christi Friesen's book Dragons and was sculpted by hand using shades of purple Premo polymer clay. This dragon pendant holds a delicate purple Iris, also sculpted by hand from Premo polymer clay. The pendant measures 2 1/2 inches tall to the top of her wings, which have been textured and rubbed with Sky Blue Pearl Ex powder. Mei the dragon has been decorated with a variety of blue glass beads and white beads. There are a total of six purple Irises (including the one Mei is holding). These delicate flowers were each carefully sculpted from purple Premo clay mixed with Cobalt blue Premo. Each petal has been textured and rubbed with purple Pearl Ex powder. To make the flowers more sturdy I sculpted green leaves behind them and pressed the flower petals to these. Each flower measures approximately 1 1/4 inches wide. I gave the dragon and the flowers two coats of high gloss varnish. I used Swarovski crystals in pink, purple, and clear to add even more sparkle to this delightful fantasy necklace. I finished the necklace off with tiny blue seed beads and a silver lobster clasp. The necklace measures about 27 inches long, and you can see how it hangs in the last two pictures.

I put a great deal of time and effort into this piece and I absolutely love the way it came out. The pictures don't really do the depth of color justice. I held one thought during the creation of this piece "May Flowers", which became Mei's Flowers once I started sculpting the dragon. Mei is the little girl in the movie My Neighbor Totoro, and that's who I named this sweet little dragon after ;-)
