I call these the Retro Jetsons earrings because they remind me of the futuristic animated show from the 1960s. I can almost imagine Jane and Judy rocking these bright orange and gold glass dangles, sold of course by Spacely Sprockets.

The Jetsons first aired in 1962-63, and now appears a somewhat quaint example of the "vintage future" which predicted we'd all get around using jet packs and flying cars in cities where the architecture resembled Seattle's Space Needle. On a deeper level, the show reflected a larger movement in art and design now known as mid-century modern.

Mid-century modern design was characterized by bright colors, clean lines, and furniture and furnishings that often seemed to float on attenuated support structures. Castiglioni's Arco lamp or Eames' chairs are great examples of this aesthetic.

If you are into vintage or retro fashion, these earrings would fit in perfectly with your style. They have a clean, spare design that is simple and elegant. But beyond the mid-century modern aesthetic, these long dangles are just fun to look at and wear. They are designed to brush your shoulders, but are extremely lightweight. I grew up in the 1960s and as soon as I paired these bright orange red rondelles with the Toho gold glass seed beads, I started to hear the Jetsons' theme music in my head. Maybe you will too.

Materials:
The bright orange glass rondelles were most likely made in Indonesia. The Toho gold glass seed beads are Japanese. The ear wires are French hooks made of gold tone jeweler's brass.
