A genuine faceted ruby briolette is the star of this bead embroidered heart shaped brooch. The facets catch the light and sparkle as only rubies can sparkle. The deep red of the ruby is highlighted by size 11 transparent ruby red seed beads, silver lined clear seed beads, red hex cut beads that also have facets that catch the light, and size 15 silver lined clear seed beads and silver lined red seed beads. I also used size 13 three cut charlottes- tiny seed beads that are faceted. The facets on those add unexpected bits of sparkle when the light catches them. Four strands of fringe, made from size 11 silver lined clear seed beads, have 4mm round garnet beads that match the deep red of the ruby. A 4mm clear bi-cone bead with an AB (aurora borealis) finish is at the top of the heart. A 4mm red bi-cone is on the bottom point.

The brooch is 4 1/2 inches (approx. 11 cm.) long, including the fringe. The width is approx. 3 inches (7.62 cm) wide.

The embroidery is done on a stiff interfacing and backed with a soft, off white ultra suede.

Rubies are the birthstone for July and garnets are the birthstone for January.

Rubies are believed to foster devotion, happiness, courage, romance and generosity. It is also said that they bring forth warmth, prosperity and high energy.

Garnets are believed to inspire romance, positive thoughts, inspiration and self confidence.

This brooch comes in a protective zip lock back with an anti-tarnish strip. I recommend storing it in this bag to help prevent the silver lined beads from tarnishing.
