This brown leather 17.5 inch necklace features a round copper pendant and three mood beads.

The one piece pendant and bail is 1.75 inches in diameter, cut from a sheet of 24 gauge copper. The edge of the pendant has a hammered texture and the inside surface is embossed with large swirls. I used a mini-torch to add a patina, giving the copper an aged look. All of the edges have been buffed and polished until smooth.

The necklace cord is 2.0mm brown Greek leather. A loop at one end, secured with a small piece of hammered copper, fits over a mood bead at the opposite end to form a clasp.

Mood rings were popular in the 60's and 70's. They changed color with changes in temperature and were fun because the color changes were associated with mood changes. Today there are mood beads in many shapes and with many patterns. They are light weight and are made using thermo-sensitive liquid crystals. Although the beads change color as their temperature changes, that change can be caused by more than body temperature and their colors can range from black to most any color of the rainbow.
Mood beads are strong but to protect their ability to change colors they should not be exposed to water.

The leather cord I used for the necklace is 2.0mm Greek leather and will retain its soft quality for many years when treated with an occasional light application of a conditioner like mink or neatsfoot oil.

I loved these mood beads the moment I saw them, with their intricate design and the rainbow of colors. I immediately visualized them matched with copper on a fine leather cord. Something simple, with the leather cord playing only a supporting role for the pattern and colors of the beads and copper.
