The white "FUTURAMIC" block lettering stands out from the silver chrome rocket on the side of peachy keen coral 1950 '98 Olds in this terrific and brilliantly coloured 8x10 classic car art photo. Small, fluffy cotton-ball clouds skittering across the sky are reflected in the vintage auto's coral-orange sheet metal. Bisected by the chrome rocket bearing the classic car's name, the curvaceous wheel well reveals a white-walled tire (of course) peeping out between the vehicle and the road beneath.

Between the clouds and the rocket, the focus of this original classic car photo, sky and flight are certainly in mind, and with purpose-the Olds Futuramics were referred to as "rocket launchers". At the time-not long after WWII had ended-the 1950 Oldsmobile '98 4-door sedan Futuramic was the widest, longest car in the nameplate's history, boasting Fisher body and a swank curving rear window (which, I confess, you don't get to see in this art photo, since the chrome rocket and curving body of the car are what caught my attention this particular classic car-admiring evening).

This handsome 1950 Olds Futuramic has little bitty flakes of white missing from its white-on-chrome badging; she could use a good bath at the very least, as evidenced by the dirt on her prawn-coloured wheel well, and might even benefit from a re-do of her luscious coral paint. But despite over sixty years of driving, this classic car is still a stunning beauty, taken as a whole or simply considering the smallest details Detroit was once so famous for never forgetting.

Even today, owners of Olds '98 Futuramics love their cars for the handsome looks, fine interior appointments ('98s were, after all, the brand's flagship vehicle), and comfortable ride-to say nothing of ease of repair, especially compared to today's automobiles. It was a gorgeous, warm summer evening when I photographed this coral classic Oldsmobile at a classic car show in Ohio, but looking at this detail photo of the vintage beauty, I couldn't help but think of a sunrise-hence the title, "Summer Sunrise".

The vintage car's paint colour reminded me of a peachy-pink hibiscus, or maybe a cooling drink of cantaloupe and coconut, lending to the almost tropical imagining that one is standing on a hill, admiring a glorious sunrise-but here, it's a sunrise composed in the salmon skin of a great American classic car!
