Glowing in the gathering dusk, the old metal lamp hanging on the side of a neat red and white barn in this 5x7 art photo. Taken in beautiful rural Missouri during one of my Route 66 trips, I found combination of the barn's white eaves and door, the slightly rustic glass-and-metal lantern glowing beside the door, very appealing. Somehow it seems warm and cozy and safe.

This 5x7 photograph looks up at the lamp from a little below and alongside the handsome barn, so we only see the bare bones: the white eaves, the deep red-painted wooden boards making up the walls; the white-framed windows at the edge of the frame, just beyond the white door with red trim. The architectural details are the real star of the show, but the lantern, with its warm golden glow, rests like a gem against the wooden frame of the barn.

The warm golden-yellow light of the Edison bulb in the lantern warms this entire photo despite the fact that the sun has not yet set. Hence the title of the artwork: "Illuminate".
