Take a peek at the ancestor of an American icon with this 8x10 art photo of one of the greatest cars of all time-the Chevy Bel Air. Seen here in its 1953/54 incarnation, this butter yellow beauty's buttercup-coloured steel fills the frame, bisected only by the silver chrome trim running along the Bel Air's door and bulging fender and the car's belt line (below the windows). The atomic 1950s "Bel Air" script is superimposed over a white bar between lines of chrome at the lower left of the photo, the gold Chevy bowtie badge resting between the words.

A summer sunset gives the scene in this classic car photo a soft, rose-gold hue, making it easy for us to look at this 8x10 and imagine it really was taken in 1953 or 1954, when this Bel Air was brand new and its owner's pride and joy. Best of all, looking up at the car from below its rear fender as this photo does, we see the evening sky reflecting off the Chevy's passenger-side window in a blueish-green reminiscent of the ocean, a pretty pop of contrast to the buttercup yellow of the Bel Air itself. Cottony trails of white clouds trail across the sky, and thus across the body and glass of the Chevrolet itself.

Overall, despite the somewhat flashy nature of this vintage Chevy Bel Air, this classic car art photo has a soft, warm feel to it-a combination of hue and perspective. My shooting the pale yellow car from below the rear fender allows us to see the car's curves, not just the sharp chrome trim.

Even in the years before its design overhaul by the great Harley Earl, Chevrolet's Bel Air series was already a stylish and handsome companion to America's fresh new postwar roads and highways. Trimmed in gleaming chrome from nose to tail, roof to rocker sills, the 1953 and '54 Bel Airs were still very attractive, popular, and best of all, affordable cars.

No matter the actual year, Chevrolet's Bel Air is considered an American icon, a vital part of both car and pop culture, particularly the 1950s models such as this buttercup yellow beauty. You can bring a classic Bel-Air home without even having to worry about insuring or storing it, though, with this 8x10 art photo of a beautiful American classic.
