Rising up on a delicate stalk staggered with wispy, fernlike stalks, the solitary flower blooming in this black and white nature photo seems like a petite firework against a background of still more stalks behind it. Fluffy-looking and tiny, the round little bloom is a soft-looking contrast to the straighter, more solid-looking fern leaves surrounding it.

This black and white botanical photo is a soft, almost dreamy close-up look at just a portion of the world in our gardens. Though this photo shows no breeze, we can detect its presence by the slight blur of the plant's stalks. While the star of the nature art dominates the left side of the frame with its little puffy flower, having its fellow fern-bedecked stalks and branches in the piece adds not only context, but depth and companionship of sorts for the bloom. After all, it would be a rather dull nature photograph, at least in this case, with that sole stalk! Though the photo is in black and white, it's easy to see that there was a perfect blue sky behind the plant--the curving separation between sky and a white cloud is quite easy to see. Luckily, the cloud was at its brightest behind the stalk I wished to make the object of our attention. (Mother Nature isn't always so helpful, believe me.)

Accompanying the small branches of ferns set onto each branch like prongs on a buck's rack are tiny little circles on sticks--the flowers of the future, themselves soon to burst into tiny fireworks. For now, though, the firm, solid roundness of the flower buds lend a wonderful sense of variety to this black and white photo with its soft flower and wispy fronds of fern.

This black and white photograph, with its tiny flower and fronds and buds, is a wonderful way to bring a soft and delicate-looking bit of nature into your home or even office. With its lines and circles and elongated ovals and its focus on nature, with no riot of colours but only a slightly green black and white, the photo is soothing, peaceful, serene, a little moment of relaxation for any place and any day. Though this black and white flower photo is slightly abstract, its somewhat soft appearance and the pale green tinge harken back to the nature showcased in the image. Strict black and white seemed to stark for this photo, thus the slight hint of colour.
