Antique Cobalt Blue Glass Dogon Annular Wound Bead Earrings With Thai Silver Lotus Beads

These artisan earrings feature beautifully unique glass rings swinging beneath handcrafted Thai silver beads that resemble a lotus blossom.

The cobalt blue circles are antique African trade beads, made in Germany in the mid to late 1800's, and were favored by the Dogon Tribe in Africa. They're also known as Annular Wound beads, and Dutch Donuts. Each bead, or ring, is unique and different, no two are alike. I find them to be somewhat mysterious, and very interesting!

The 99% pure silver Thai beads were handcrafted by artisans from the Karen Hill Tribe in Thailand.

I used sterling silver for the wire wrapping, and dropped the finished earrings from sterling silver hinged lever back findings.

These unique, chic, one of a kind earrings could easily become your favorite "go to" accessory. I've recently become fascinated with glass beads, particularly ancient glass and African trade beads. The older they are, the more I like them!

I thought it would be fun to combine these handmade glass Dogon beads from Germany with bright, shiny new handcrafted silver beads from Thailand. Knowing that the glass beads were traded in Africa, undoubtedly having been worn and adored for many years, maybe by many different people, and then meeting up with the silver from Thailand, in my house in the United States, brought a huge smile to my face. They inspired me to make these simple, funky, unique, and wonderfully lovely, earrings.
