Faceted amethyst briolettes have been wrapped in sterling silver wire to create these artisan handmade earrings. Short and sassy, these petite drop earrings are easy to wear, and will add a bright pop of color to your outfit.

These lavender gemstones are beautifully cut and faceted which allows them to catch the light, throwing off brilliant sparkle and color. This popular shape is called "onion" or "kiss." (I much prefer the word kiss because it brings to mind a much sweeter image.)

I chose to put a light patina on the sterling silver to create contrast and interest, and I love how it makes the color of the amethyst pop. After darkening the metal, I rubbed it by hand to give it a slightly aged appearance. The varying shades of gray bring out the highs and lows of the wire wrapping, adding texture.

The lavender purple color of the amethyst comes remarkably close to Pantone's spring color called Bellflower, and it will not only be dazzling with all shades of purple, but I can see them with turquoise, shades of green, and earth tones, as well. This pair of earrings are so lightweight and easy to wear that you'll forget you have them on.

Amethyst is the birthstone for February.
