Lemon Quartz marquise gemstones are wrapped in sterling silver wire and dropped from hinged leverback findings to create these bright, sparkling artisan earrings. The transparent stones are beautifully faceted, allowing them to playfully catch the light as they move. Their golden shade of yellow is a stunning contrast against the antiqued sterling silver. When I started to work with these two stones, I had planned to create a more elaborate design, but in the end, I decided that this was a definite case of "less is more" and it seemed best to let the stones speak for themselves in this classic, simple wire wrapped style.

After darkening the metal, I rubbed it gently with very fine steel wool and then polished it by hand with my jewelers rouge cloth. The results are dusky dark lows and gunmetal gray highs, with a subtle polish.

There aren't too many colors that these little baubles won't go with, but they would be particularly hot with Pantene's "Solor Power" that is featured in their Spring 2012 pallet, and is a bright, almost mustard yellow.

The stones aren't flat, they're lovely, chubby little pillows, measuring almost 6mm thick.

These earrings were inspired by the thoughts of sunshine on a stormy day. The contrast between the bright golden yellow gemstones and the dusky antiqued silver reminds me of how lovely it is to see the sun break through dark, rumbling clouds after a storm.
