This was my first time working with shells and I really enjoyed the intricate shapes, designs and colors of the shells. I was glad however not to have to grout around the delicate shells.

The center porcelain roses are adorned with shells all around. Shells, beads and pearls with ceramic red hearts decorate the octagonal shape of this valentine.

The Sailors Valentine measures approximately 13 1/2" x 13 1/2".

A sailor's valentine is a type of antique souvenir, or sentimental gift, originally brought home from a sailor's voyage at sea for his loved one between 1830 and 1890.
