Product Description
Colorful silk saris imported from India have been cut into strips, then folded over and stitched with variegated thread to make a ribbon approximately 1/2" wide. There are no frayed or raw edges, making this an ideal silk ribbon for including in jewelry and other fine art projects.

One yard each of five different hues of cool blues, turquoise and a green is included in this collection, which is exactly as pictured above.

The word sari is derived from the Sanskrit meaning strip of cloth. The history of these beautiful and graceful garments can be traced back to the Indus Valley civilization, which flourished from 2800-1800 BC in the western part of the Indian subcontinent. It is worn draped around the waist and over the shoulder, and there are many different ways of draping. A petticoat and blouse are usually worn underneath. Sari can be made of cotton, silk, or synthetic fabrics, in simple or elaborately embroidered designs.

Patchtique uses only pure silk sari, imported directly from India. After arrival in Seattle, the silk is carefully washed and dried. Then strips are cut to preserve the gradations of the colors and prints in each sari.
