Antique 1850 Victorian Tallis Scriptures Natural History Hand Colored Engraving Featuring 'The Wild Boar'

A wonderfully detailed engraving featuring "The Wild Boar" from an 1850 edition of Tallis' Scriptures Natural History For Youth.

The heavy paper is blank on its reverse, shows gentle tanning, and is clean and smooth with the corners only slightly softened. The engraving is clear and strong and the hand colored is lovely and clear. The paper measures 5" x 7" (13x18 cm), the color is a natural off-white, and has no tears, folds, creases, or marks.

A gorgeous study to frame ~ perhaps you'll gift to your favorite wild boar! A fantastic image to use in your art ~ your card and tag creations, scrap book page making, collage, decoupage.

Inspiration/Story Behind This Product
'Tallis Scriptures Natural History For Youth' was an 8-volume 1850 English work devoted to the study with a religious slant and geared toward children. These were small volumes that were issued as serials or subscriptions.

The pages were bound by string which has long gone missing. The subscriber would take their collection of engravings back to the printer and have them bound into books ~ either to keep or to gift.

The dating of '1850' comes from the volumes back-paper wrap which includes advertising for other items being offered by the publisher in the upcoming year ~ 1851.
