Product Description
From 1951, Advance 5818 is part of the The New York Times Designer Series Patterns of the Times.

This sleveless day dress design features a close-fitting, asymmetric wrap bodice with or without a large, square collar, optional topstitching. The asymmetric line continues into the bias skirt through a nine button, left side front closure. The buttons are both decorative and functional.

According to an article published in the April 23 1951 edition of Life magazine, Henry Rosenfeld was one of America's best known manufacturers of budget priced dresses with a 20 million dollar annual business. His simple uncluttered designs kept labor costs down, allowing him to invest more in fabrics. He bought fabrics in bulk, giving him lower prices. A risky practice was to buy fabrics months ahead of when they were needed, which often resulted in better quality materials. His factory used assembly line methods. A sewer would work on one part of a dress instead of the whole garment.

This vintage dress sewing pattern is Misses Size 14. The actual body measurements for this vintage dress pattern are: Bust = 32 inches (81.3 cm) , Waist = 26.5 inches (67.3 cm), Hip = 35 inches (88.9 cm). Please note that the hip measurement on this pattern is taken at 7" below the natural waistline.

This is an original sewing pattern not a copy. The pattern is carefully protected in non-PVC, archival-safe plastic along with a cardboard backing. This helps to ensure that it can be enjoyed for many years to come.

If you have any questions regarding this pattern please send me a message and I will be happy to help you.
