This is a handpainted and handmade ceramic pottery bell featuring a very pretty desert scene of mountains, cactus plants, a blooming century plant, and sky. It is numbered and signed by the artist who painted it but I do not know what the words and numbers of "56 Western SG" represent that are on the inside of the bell.

I purchased this in a gift shop in Yuma, Arizona, in 1989 where everything was supposed to be handmade and handpainted by the various artists being represented from that region. This does appear handmade and handpainted as claimed. There was no paperwork with it to authenticate it, however. I loved it anyway and purchased it because of the colors and beauty of the design.

It is about 3 inches tall, not including the hanging rope, and it is 3-1/2 inches in diameter. It is about 7 inches tall from top of rope to base of bell.

It is in very good condition but it does have some very minor scratches from use over the years since I purchased it in 1989. And there are 2 very small chips on the edge which do not detract from the beauty of this bell and are not noticeable unless you are up close. It has only been on display a few times and mostly has been in storage.

The colors are off white for the base, with turquoise and white, brown, grayish white, oranges, tans, and browns. Very lovely collectible bell for any bell collector who loves pieces that are handmade and handpainted. It makes a lovely clear sound when the clapper hits against the sides of the bell. Great for indoor or protected outdoor use. I always displayed it inside but it would be fine to place it on a covered porch or veranda.

It is not designed to use outdoors without cover or protection as it does not appear to have a finish that would protect it from the elements/weather.

A great collectible bell for anyone who loves southwestern theme artwork and handmade items.
