RESERVED. Hand carved dragonflies grace the bone beads used in these gorgeous handmade earrings. DRAGONFLY DREAMS is a pair of one of a kind (OOAK) earrings made with carved bone beads, turquoise and sterling silver spirals. These beauties, handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, will be a fun addition to your daily wardrobe!

As you can see in the photographs, the dragonflies are hand carved, each dragonfly just a bit different! The earrings are two-sided, with a total of 4 dragonflies. The dragonflies were carved into dyed dark brown bone and, as the carving proceeded, the natural white color of the bone was exposed. Such a beautiful contrast! The true color of the bone beads are actually about halfway between the lighter color of the first photo and the darker brown of the second photo. Sometimes photographing a true color is hard!

To add a pop of color to DRAFONFLY DREAMS, I used a turquoise rondelle for each earrings. The turquoise is mainly a beautiful sky blue color. Running through the turquoise, however, are lines of dark brown matrix, a perfect companion for the bone beads!

Sterling silver daisy spacers separate the bone beads from the turquoise. A sterling silver daisy spacer was also used at the bottom of each of the beads. Sterling silver 2mm beads were also used at each end of the earrings components. To add even more interest to DRAGONFLY DREAMS, I hand hammered sterling silver spiral headpins. The main body of the earrings were then wire-wrapped to sterling silver earwires.

I just love bone beads like these that have been hand carved. These earrings are a wonderfully fun pair of earrings. Imagine a white shirt and blue jeans or a turquoise colored turtleneck/sweater! Beautiful!

Carved bone beads always draw me, whether they be scrimshaw are carved like these beads. And, since I also have a weak spot for dragonflies, I knew these beads had to be made into a pair of earrings :)
