Looking for a cheerful, beautiful pair of handmade earrings? They are right here! These earrings were created with saffron yellow mother of pearl shell, Swarovksi crystals and sterling silver. They are a perfect complement to the MIRASOL necklace or can stand perfectly on their own. For those that believe "less is more" in one of a kind (OOAK) jewelry, but want jewelry that will draw positive comments, these earrings will definitely do that! The MIRASOL earrings were created by me, Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs. "MIRASOL" is a term used for an annual sunflower that is grown throughout much of North America for its seeds. The color reminded me of sunflowers!

The color of these mother of pearl shell earrings is so warm and inviting. The MIRASOL earrings are a beautiful mellow saffron yellow color. The cut of the shell is interesting and eye catching, a hexagon shape. As is usual with mother of pearl shell, one side is usually slightly paler than the other - that is the case with these earrings, as you can see in photos #6 and #8 - although the photos show a larger contrast than the eye actually sees. The mother of pearl shell used in these MIRASOL earrings have been dyed.

To add a bit of sparkle to the earrings, I added a faceted 6mm "topaz" Swarovski crystal bicones to the top of each earrings. The crystals are separated from the mother of pearl shell by sterling silver 2mm beads. The "topaz" crystals are a perfect complement to the color of the mother of pearl shell. Swarovski crystals are considered the standard by which all man-made crystals are compared - they have flash like no others.

Sterling silver was the metal of choice for the earrings. As was mentioned above, sterling silver 2mm beads separate the shell and crystals but also used at the top and bottom of the earrings to act like a frame. Handmade (by me) sterling silver headpins with a hammered loop at the end were used to wire wrap the main body of the earrings to sterling silver French hook earwires. A perfect finish for a fun pair of earrings!

Mother-of-pearl is believed to stimulate intuition, sensitivity and imagination; additionally, it symbolizes faith and charity. Man-made crystals carry the energies of transformation, rebirth and communication. Silver is the metal of love and healing.
