BAMBOO SUMMER is an gloriously stunning pair of handmade earrings! Just look at the colors, combining the beauty of copper, lampwork glass beads and fuchsia Swarovski crystals! These beauties will make a wonderful addition to you one of a kind (OOAK) jewelry collection. The BAMBOO SUMMER earrings were carefully handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs.

The fabulous copper squares were handmade by the very talented Kristi of KristiBowmanDesign of precious metal clay. Each piece is individually molded, shaped, carved and fired by Kristi from beginning to end - each one is slightly different, an original work of art . The pattern on the copper squares is of a bamboo shard, an original design that she carved into silicone. After the pieces are fired to burn off the clay, pure copper is left. Then Kristi will "torch" the copper to bring out amazing colors. Depending on the light source, I see rich copper with washes of fuchsia and purple. I took the photos in several different light sources (full sun, shadow and dappled shade) so you can see the colors that show up in different settings. The bamboo squares, which are slightly domed, were wire wrapped on copper wire to lampwork beads.

The outstanding lampwork beads are a work of art in themselves and seemed to be the perfect choice to complement the copper bamboo squares. The lampwork beads were made by Terry of SilverfishDesigns. The shape is a "soft organic" cube shape with swirls of dark silver glass. The silver glass gives colors ranging from dark purple to fuchsia to amber. They were then encased in clear glass to give wonderful depth. The colors of the lampwork beads certainly highlight the colors in the torched copper.

And to bring out the beautiful fuchsia colors even more and to add a lot of sparkle to BAMBOO SUMMER, I chose "fuchsia" Swarovski crystal faceted bicones in a 6mm size. To separate the crystals from the lampwork beads, a copper rope spacer was used.

To finish this wonderful pair of earrings, the main body was wire wrapped on copper wire to sterling silver French hooks. The earwires had a 3mm copper bead added to tie the metals together.

Copper is said to allow the wearer to recognize the barriers which are in the path of personal development. Even though man-made, glass carries the energies of transformation, rebirth and communication.
