I have used Thai Hill Tribe handmade fine silver pedants and beads for years now - and this is the prettiest, most intricate piece I have ever run across. Just look at the amazing detailing in it: flowers, circles, ovals . . . Each Thai Hill Tribe pendant is handmade in a traditional manner. The silver used is called "fine silver" because pieces can be 99% pure silver, as opposed to sterling silver, which is 92.5% pure silver. Because the Thai fan pendant reminded me of fans that flamenco dancers sometimes use, I decided to use a red stone to mimic the fieriness of the passionate dance. Red mountain jade rounds were chosen. In the spirit of full disclosure, mountain jade is not a true "jade". It is a high grade dolomite marble that is easily dyed to look like lapis lazuli, red coral, real jade and other gemstones. I used two different sizes of red mountain jade to add texture to the necklace. Three groups of 3 larger mountain jade beads make up the front of the necklace. The groups are separated from each other by the smaller mountain jade beads, 2mm sterling silver beads and sterling silver daisy spacers. The back of the necklace is finished with the smaller beads in groups of three separated by 2mm sterling beads.

RED FAN DANCE was finished with a sterling silver hook clasp and a 2"/5.1 cm sterling silver extender flattened box chain. Sterling wire protectors were used to connect the necklace to the hook clasp and chain for added security. The extender chain gives you more variety in the length of the necklace; a red mountain jade bead was wire-wrapped to the end for a perfect finish.

Thai Hill Tribe fine silver is made by the Karen Hill Tribe high in the mountains of Thailand (in the Golden Triangle area) using traditional techniques. Because they live so close to nature, a majority of Hill Tribe designs have nature-inspired or symbolic designs. Fine silver has a higher silver content than sterling silver - it can be up to 99% pure as opposed to sterling silver whih is 92.5% pure silver. Because of the higher silver content, fine silver has a beautiful "old" glow to it and does not tarnish as quickly as sterling silver does.

Mountain Jade (marble) is said to enhance compassion for all living things. it is also used to help the wearer focus to the task at hand. Silver is the metal of love and healing.
