** Sterling silver .925 chain is 18 in long (about 48 cm), the pendant adds another inch (2.5 cm)

I'm a True Blood fan. Ok, that is probably an understatement, but that's my story and I am sticking to it. I've enjoyed amnesiac Eric this season, and this necklace was inspired by that storyline.

I've formed the sterling silver hammered heart by hand and then fired it with my trusty torch. Each heart is hammered for a bit of texture. I've wrapped three gorgeous blood read garnets to the heart, and attached a few more to dangle nicely from the necklace clasp. The heart pendant has been hung from a sterling silver chain. All the sterling silver surfaces have been oxidized (also known as antiqued or darkened) to a rich patina. The darkened silver and the deep blood red garnets are perfect companions. Kind of like Sookie and Eric.

What is a garnet? According to Wikipedia, it is a precious stone consisting of a deep red vitreous silicate mineral. Garnet is known as January's birthstone and, per lore, it is believed that if a garnet is put under a pillow it will cure depression. Also according to lore wearing garnets will increase an individual's self-esteem or make them more popular.

What is sterling silver? Sterling silver is a white, highly reflective precious metal composed of 92.5 percent pure silver and 7.5 percent other metal, usually copper. Copper provides the alloy with additional strength and hardness, that isn't otherwise the nature of pure or fine silver.
