The unwanted hotel soap was diverted from landfill by FabMo, an ecologically minded nonprofit. The #10 cotton crochet thread in shaded yellows was rescued from The Salvation Army. These two discarded items came together in a very useful soap holder, which also makes a great drawstring bag to protect your cell phone or ipod.

Pretty patterns are appealing, but if a soap sock has too loose a weave or designs with large holes, those small soap slivers will slip right out. My tight crochet pattern keeps the soap in place and creates an exfoliating side as well as a smoother side. It is easily reversible before adding soap.
