Product Description
This piece is called 'Eye Phone', get it? I thought you would...
I found this 1958 vintage phone at an Estate sale. I first took it apart and made sure it worked, and it does, then proceeded to gesso and make it into a blank canvas.
Phones from this era had everything attached, meaning, you couldn't change out the coiled cord, etc. So, I had to incorporate the color 'fifties olive green' into my design. So, I thought I'd give it a kind of quirky, colorful organic abstract design, making the green a kind of leafy, vine randomly winding around. As you can see, the 'Hello'? in front, (if that's what you say, when you pick up the receiver), and 'Goodbye', in back, (when you hang up). The gesso I use on my phones have a little texture to it, so that the paint will not come off. Then, everything is sealed with a protective coat Polyurethane.
