Product Description
This Ivory from Prehistoric or ancient Woolly Mammoth Tusk was obtained from near the Whitestone River, in the Yukon Territory, Canada. Ivories from that area have been radiocarbon dated to approximately 30,000 years old.

Soft ripples and silken smooth hand carved dangle drop earrings from the bark Mammoth Ivory. Sanded, buffed and polished to a beautiful natural sheen to an almost drop-like shape.

This darkish color one-of-a-kind pieces measures approximately 10mm wide near bottom and are 38mm tall (without my signature floral bail) or just over 1 1/2" and with bail and silver color hook, the earrings measure 6 cm long or about 2 3/8th inches. The front of the pendants have natural ridges which are found just under the bark in ivory and located over the cream color dentin of the inner ivory. No nickel.

The hooks are no nickel silver over brass, which means they are very well suited to someone with sensitivity to nickel, but will attach sterling silver hooks for a nominal added fee of $3. I use the no nickel hooks myself as I'm very sensitive to most metals other than high karat gold.

What is fossil mammoth ivory?

Fossil mammoth ivory is the fossilized tusk of the woolly mammoth, found in parts of British Columbia, Yukon, Alaska and Siberia. Our tusk is obtained from the Yukon and B.C.
Woolly mammoths are common in the fossil record, but actual Fossils are organic material that have turned into stone, and unlike most other prehistoric animals, woolly mammoth remains are often not literally fossilized although commonly known as such.
This mammoth ivory has been preserved in the permafrost of the north for thousands of years. Colors range from hues of white, cream, tan, dark coffee brown, and blue.

How to take care of fossil mammoth ivory:

Avoid direct contact with cosmetics, perfume, hair spray, or any corrosive solutions. The luster is enhanced from frequent wear and contact with natural skin oils.
