This graceful pendant measures just over 2 inches (5cm) long and is hung from a 14 karat gold plated bail. The dichroic glass is fused on top of a black base and has a wonderful crinkly, metallic texture. Monochromatic colors are represented by a family of blues, purples and then some pinks. There are hints of green and silver as well. This pendant is likely to reflect and compliment almost any color worn with it.

I had a lovely piece of ripply dichroic glass with a pattern and colors that would be very exciting. I layered this on top of a plain black base for contrast. My hopes were fulfilled when I opened the kiln and saw this beautiful result.

This pendant was created in a controlled firing at 1500 degrees F. This once red hot baby is now displaying it's cooler colors!

What is dichroic glass? Dichroic glass was first developed by NASA as part of their satellite mirror systems. The thin dichroic coating must be applied to the sheet glass in very controlled environments. Di-chroic means two colors and this glass reflects/transmits different colors depending on the angle of light. When it is worn with different colors, it appears to pick up and reflect some of those colors so it really enhances the total look. I call this the "mood" of the glass. Dichroic glass is very coveted by glass jewelry artisans.
