These small dichroic glass earrings measure 1.5 cm wide and 2 cm long, not including the bail and wires. The black base is accentuated by bits of red and textured rainbow dichroic glass that shimmer in the light. These little handmade earrings are lightweight and comfortable to wear. What is dichroic glass? Dichroic glass was first developed by NASA as part of their satellite mirror systems. The thin dichroic coating must be applied to the sheet glass in very controlled environments. Di-chroic means two colors and this glass reflects/transmits different colors depending on the angle of light. When it is worn with different colors, it appears to pick up and reflect some of those colors so it really enhances the total look. I call this the "mood" of the glass. Dichroic glass is very coveted by glass jewelry artisans.
