This is a lovely originally designed piece of dichroic jewelry that will welcome any season, from lush summer to the starkness of winter. The intense colors range from a ribboned coppery gold with blue-gray and teal metallic colors on the base layer, yellow and metallic golden green/plum in the middle layer and a deep cobalt blue metallic accent on the top! Not surprising for dichroic glass, these layers of color will shift in the light and provide endless color statements!

This brooch passed through several firings before arriving at it's final state. Layer after layer of both solid and clear dichroic glass was added to create a gem. I hope you love wearing this!

What is dichroic glass? Dichroic glass was first developed by NASA as part of their satellite mirror systems. The extremely thin dichroic coating must be applied to the sheet glass in very controlled environments.

Di-chroic means two colors and this glass reflects/transmits different colors depending on the angle of light. When it is worn with different colors, it appears to pick up and reflect some of those colors so it really enhances the total look. I call this the "mood" of the glass. Because of it's ability to color-shift, photographing the jewelry is difficult. Dichroic glass is very coveted by glass jewelry artisans.

All Umeboshi jewelry is handmade by the artist at Dark Hollow Studio in the Appalachian mountains of West Virginia. Each piece is carefully fired and annealed in a digital kiln for a perfect results! This piece is has it's own inspiration and you should not see another one just like this.

I wear my handmade jewelry almost every day. People have often stopped me to look at the dichroic glass and ask or comment about it. Seeing the jewelry being worn and catching the light has been my best advertisement.
