"Master Humphrey's Clock" by Charles Dickens, a two-volume set containing two of the author's most famous works, "Old Curiosity Shop" (Vol 1, 1840) and "Barnaby Rudge" (Vol 2, 1841), within the narrative of 'Master Humphrey'. Lavishly illustrated by George Cattermole and Hablot Browne.

First Edition, pub 1840, 1841 respectively by Chapman and Hall, London. Printed by Bradbury and Evans, Whitefriar.

Vol 1 contains 228 pages with "Old Curiosity Shop" running through page 223 with 5 pages of '"Master Humphrey from his Clock Side at the Chimney-Corner" which introduces the following tale. Vol 2 "Barnaby Rudge" starts at page 229 and runs through page 420 where it returns once again to 'Master Humphrey' at his clock side.

The books are 10-1/4" x 7" with marbled boards with gilt titles & decoration on the spine, marbled end papers, leather trim with gilt details. The pages are in very good shape, bright and strong; there is some foxing/spotting in areas, but not extensive. There is a very attractive bookplate inside each volume with the name 'C. Reginald Grundy'.

The cover boards and spine have separated from the book, and would need to be rebound or repaired. The boards themselves are in good shape, but the marbled paper covers are faded and worn, the spine worn at top/bottom and the corners are bumped.

The good condition of the pages as well as the scarcity of these volumes warrants rebinding to preserve them for the future. If you would like to see more images, just let me know and I will be glad to send them along.
