Product Description
Replica of Rolling Thunder Medicine Man Beaded Hat Band

This hat band is my replica of the beaded hatband worn by Rolling Thunder, a Cherokee, Shoshone Medicine Man, in the photo on the back cover of dust jacket from the book, Rolling Thunder by Doug Boyd.

Intertribal medicine man Rolling Thunder (1916-1997) was a healer, teacher, visionary, and activist who rose to popularity in the 1960s and '70s through his friendship with artists such as Bob Dylan and Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead and as the inspiration for the Billy Jack films. Eyewitness accounts of his remarkable healings are legend, as are those of his ability to call forth the forces of nature, typically in the form of thunder clouds.

"Rolling Thunder Medicine Man Beaded Hat Band Replica"

This geometric design beaded hat band, titled Rolling Thunder, I patterned from viewing the photo on the book cover of Rolling Thunder wearing his original. The photo is from his autobiograpy book titled "Rolling Thunder". It is now completed and ready to ship.

Since no color photo of the hat band is available, I am offering it in two different color choices. In the books photo, Rolling Thunder is wearing a white or possibly a light bone colored straw hat and a dark shirt, possibly black or dark brown. The color of the geometric diamond is unable to be decided for sure.

Completed it is 19-beads wide, finishing at 13/16" wide with 330 rows, incorporating 6,270 individual size 15/0 quality glass seed beads, in three colors. In this replica I am using Black, White and Blue Turquoise. The other replica of this hatband pattern will be beaded in EARTH-tone colors of Dark Brown, Bone and a Medium Tan (Taupe), see other listing. If you like this hatband design and would like me to replicate it for you, using a different color for the diamond, or different colors all together, please feel free to contact me.

It is finished with black deer hide leather ends and ties and 23.25 inches, in length. This impeccable beaded hatband design is a link to history past and is a class act that will compliment and fit hat size 7 1/8 and larger, nicely.

All my beaded hat bands are individually hand beaded on my handmade oak loom, by myself personally, unless did in peyote stitch. This one takes about 20 hours to complete, 1 bead at a time.

"A WORK OF ART ~ HEIRLOOM!"

I've included the photo of Rolling Thunder, by Gigi Carroll, wearing his hatband, from the dust jacket cover, so you can compare how I replicated the pattern. I then have a photo when the beadwork was in progress, on my loom and photos of the beadwork completed and pictured on a hat.

This beaded hat band comes with a Certificate of Authenticity Card, and a guarantee of being handmade by me, with my signature, date, and future contact information.

Inspiration/Story Behind This Product
I had a person contact me, inquirying if I could replicate a hat band worn by Rolling Thunder, a Cherokee, Shoshone Medicine Man. The hat band he was referring to, he said, was on the cover of the book Rolling Thunder.

I purchased the book, and on the dust jackets back cover is a black and white photo of Rolling Thunder wearing this hat band. (See photo in listing). I then made the pattern for the design and am currently beading my replica of the hat band worn by Rolling Thunder on the dust jacket cover. Since no color photo is available, I am beading this version of my replica in White, Black and Turquoise.
