Product Description
Make Your Own Basic Sturdy Reusable Grocery or Tote Bag with this Pattern PDF. Learn how to make your own durable reusable grocery or tote bags using either large pieces of fabric or scraps left over from previous quilting projects. Sixteen pages of detailed instructions with over 50 photos of the process guide you in creating your bags.
The reusable grocery bags I purchased would begin to fall apart after not very many uses, I designed my bags to be as durable as possible. Leftover quilting cottons are great fabrics to use for these bags.
This Basic pattern shows you how to make a very simple bag and includes 3 other variations that will help you use smaller scraps and even extra quilt blocks for more advanced bags that are still easy to construct. There are a couple sample pages shown to give you an idea of the detailed instructions and photos to help even those who have been sewing for only a short time.
The bags can be made using one, two or many different fabrics, depending on what you have on hand. The simplest bag can be made from just less than 2 yards of one fabric, while more scrappy bags will need a piece of fabric appx 1 1/2 yards for the lining and handles with smaller scraps for the outside of the bag.
Your pattern will be sent to you via email as a PDF file that will open with most versions of Acrobat Reader.
Inspiration/Story Behind This Product
I was frustrated with the poor quality of the reusable grocery bags that were available, so I designed my bags to be as sturdy as possible and easy to make. These bags are also great projects for using up fabric scraps left from quilting projects. The bags I have made are sturdy enough to fill with heavy items, and are machine washable, too.
