Mixed Blues Fat Quarter of Hand Dyed Cotton Fabric. Three shades of Procion MX blue dyes were used on this fat quarter of fabric that would be perfect to use for applique or to add a bit of a spark to a quilt. The low water immersion technique I use creates much patterning, depth and shades of color.

My hand dyed fabrics have been soaked and rinsed and washed many times until the water runs clear, but it is always a good idea to rinse them yourself also to be sure there is no bleeding. Water from different sources can react different than my hard water even though I have also used a softener in several rinses.

I love to see what happens when I add color to fabric. When dyeing fabric by scrunching it into various containers before adding the dye solution, I never really know what I will end up with until the final rinses are complete and the fabric has been dried and ironed.
