Quilted Lavender Grapes Sunprint Wall Hanging- 5"x12"

This art quilt hanging is made using a sunprinted fabric of Grape leaves, on fabric painted in shades of rose and blue for the center panel of the piece. A sparkle paint was added to give the fabric a bit of a pearly sheen. The top and bottom sections are of a painted fabric in lavender. Freemotion quilting accents the sunprint, and the lavender sections. Those panels are freemotion quilted with a vinelike design. The edges are bound with a white yarn couched on, and the top has a narrow ribbon stitched on to use as a hanger.

This little art quilt can be displayed as is. One photo shows a hanging displayed on a narrow wall space. It could be placed in a frame meant for two-3 1/2x5" photos, or it can be displayed by mounting it to a pre-stretched artist canvas. the canvas can be used as is, or covered with fabric before mounting the quilt.

Botanical Sunprints are made by placing leaves, flowers, and(or) thin foam sheet cutouts (for butterflies or hummingbirds) onto freshly painted cotton fabric, while the paint is still wet, and placed in the sun to dry. The combination of sun and humidity affect the speed at which the paint dries. If conditions are ideal, the color moves from under the leaf or flower, resulting in the sunprint. No two can be the same, due to different drying conditions and paint color combinations. Every print is a unique original.
