Product Description

"Rose Door" Art Quilt- 13"x17" in size.

This piece is from my Stones and Walls series of art pieces inspired by stone walls used in architecture. It shows the front door of a home with Delphiniums, Climbing Roses, and Daisies blooming along the stone walk and up and over the door. The stone wall was "built" stone by stone with small pieces of cotton and silk fabrics in soft colors. Freemotion quilting adds texture to the stonework. The climbing rose stem is made from an interesting, nubby yarn couched over the stone. Dyed silk was used for the Delphiniums accented with small glass beads in the center of each floret. The Roses, Daisy flowers and leaves are cut from various cottons, appliqued on. The centers of the daisies are French knots of a yellow rayon thread. Pastels were used to add shading to the front steps and door panel as finishing touches.

This quilt won "Best in Show" at the Troy Fair in Troy, PA this summer- 2009!

This piece has a sleeve stitched on the back for hanging on a slat or dowel as it is, or it could be framed or mounted on artist pre-stretched canvas.

Inspiration/Story Behind This Product

This series of Art Quilts is inspired by stone walls and architecture. I am surrounded by stone walls and my gardens which I love to bring to my quilts. This series celebrates the gardens that surround many stone homes.
