"Green Fern and Flowers Sunprint" Mini Art Quilt- 5"x7"- From the Sunprint Series. Reg Price- $25

This little mini quilt highlights a sunprint on cotton fabric of a fern leaf and Phlox flowers in shades of blue to green. The sunprinted fabric was cut apart and accented with a white fabric creating a geometric pattern. The free motion quilting in a vine motif in the white areas and the quilting details in the sunprints are done in clear thread. The edges of the pieces are covered with a black with metallic gold yarn couched on. The edges are bound with the same yarn. Heat set Swarovski crystals add sparkle to the flower centers.

This will make a thoughtful gift for anyone who loves to be surrounded by nature. Mini quilts are sized for standard size frames, they can be mounted to artist canvas, or even displayed as they are.

My sunprints on fabric help me to bring my own gardens to my quilts. At a distance a garden or other area may not be very appealing, but upon closer inspection, single blooms, leaves, or other things have much beauty. I am striving to bring that beauty in nature to my art quilts.

Sunprints are made by placing leaves, flowers, and(or) thin foam sheet cutouts (for butterflies or hummingbirds) onto freshly painted cotton fabric, while the paint is still wet, and placed in the sun to dry. The combination of sun and humidity affect the speed at which the paint dries. If conditions are ideal, the color moves from under the leaf or flower, resulting in the sunprint. No two can be the same, due to different drying conditions and paint color combinations. Every print is a unique original.
