Product Description
Heirloom Rossa Di Treviso Precoce Radicchio is from Treviso, Italy. This variety of Radicchio is shaped much like a head of Romaine Lettuce. The leaves are long and deep red. Just as cold temperatures enhance the color of red lettuce and cabbage, this is also the case with Radicchio. Radicchio is a leaf chicory that has a spicy taste. Radicchio is traditionally grilled in olive oil or incorporated into recipes, it has become popular in the United States as a raw salad ingredient, used as you would lettuce. The root can also be use as an ingredient in recipes. With all chicory, if grown correctly the root can be used as a substitute for coffee. Chicory is said to have medicinal properties and is well known for its toxicity to internal parasites. Radicchio is easy to grow. Water frequently to avoid the leaf having a more bitter taste. Just as lettuce tends to get bitter with infrequent waterings, so does Radicchio. Harvest at desired size. 45 days until maturity of a full size rosette, 20 - 25 day for baby greens. Packet contains approximately 250 seeds grown naturally with love and care.
