Product Description
Labradorite jewelry is no quite, modest accessory. Labradorite's flashing iridescent colors called schiller or labradorescence, will accent your attention to clothing acumen. A striking example of schiller is found in this labradorite pendant. With a background of dark forest colors, almost black, the yellow spots make me imagine a leopard in his majestic attire, even though the colors are reversed. The labradorite gemstone is encased in a brushed sterling silver pendant, with uncomplicated straight lines, contrasting with the gemstone, letting it be the star. A rolled tube at the top of the pendant serves as the bail. While a chain is not included, it would be well suited to a round or box chain, such as a rope, Omega, snake or bead chain.

It is 1 5/8 inches in length, including the rolled tube and 1 1/4 inches wide.

Labradorite only shines its flashing lights when the gemstone is positioned at a particular angle. Cleavage lines on the stone are not cracks but are part of the stone's structure. It was named after Labrador Peninsula where it was first found about 1770. According to legend the Northern Lights were once trapped in the rocks along the coast of Labrador, where an Eskimo warrior found them. With a mighty blow of his spear, he freed most of the lights. Those that were left with lights became the beautiful labradorite gemstone.

Care of your handcrafted work of art.
Labradorite gemstones are of medium hardness, 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale but because of the cleavage lines in it's structure it should not receive knocks. Always remove it before bathing, swimming or doing strenuous activities. The silver can be damaged by salty or chlorine water. Clean your labradorite pendant and its brushed sterling silver mounting with mild soap and water and dry it with a soft cloth. Since the mounting is brushed sterling silver that does not have a high shine, the pendant can be wiped with a soft cloth. If it should tarnish remove the oxidation with a jeweler's cloth. Always wait to put it back on until after makeup, lotions and perfume have been applied. It is best to store it in a jewelry pouch to protect it from scratches, and away from dampness, sunlight and heat.
