I created this simple and elegant artisan necklace using sterling silver spirals wire wrapped around a sky blue larimar focal, then hung it on a thin sterling silver chain with a hand crafted sterling silver hook and eye clasp.

Larimar is one of my favorite gemstones. Unknown to the outside world until a Spanish missionary discovered it on the beaches of the Dominican Republic, it quickly became a favorite of jewelry afficiandos. Although the color can be somewhat similar to high quality turquoise, larimar has a chatoyance that you never see in turquoise. The shimmering quality of the light as it passes through the semi translucent stone is simply a natural wonder that has to be seen in person to really be appreciated.

The stone in this necklace is a lovely sky blue with swirling hints of lighter blue and white. These swirling patterns combine with the semi translucence to create a sort of watery depth like the clear Caribbean seas that dolphins love, giving this stone a claim to being The Dolphin Stone. It has also been called The Atlantis Stone because of these same qualities.

The chain for this necklace is a soldered thin commercial chain for smoothness. It's finished with a tiny hand forged hook and eye clasp.
