This vintage ceramic box is textured to resemble wood, and is glazed in tan, black, and green. The lid has a large duck decoy shape perched on top, possibly a Mallard duck, and the sides of the square box are made to look like they have dark metal bands joining it at the corners.

The lower edge of the side of the box is marked "Duncan Enterprises 1978." Duncan Enterprises is a hobby ceramics manufacturer that is still in business. This design, usually done in wood, was quite trendy in the 70s. The underside of the lid and box are marked with another mark, "JH 83," which may be the hobbyist's initials and the date this piece was fired.

Condition notes:
This has a chip near the lower edge of the bottom part of the box. It also has a cracked area underneath the front end of the duck, only visible on the underside of the lid. It looks like someone pushed down hard on the duck's head and fractured it, I don't know how extensively. I have discounted this box to a fraction of its usual selling price because of this. Carefully packed and sold as is.
