This is a cute little vintage 6-sided (hexagon), shaped box for storing treasures and trinkets. There is a 3-D butterfly motif on the top that appears to be welded or soldered on. Lid is hinged in the back, and bottom has 4 little cork pads to protect furniture.

There are no manufacture's stamps on the bottom, but does bear the number "4" stamped upside down on the front, and "96" stamped on the lid.

The inside does bear evidence of use by the presence of a black, sooty type of material. It's possible that this little box was used to store or burn incense. I imagine the inside would easily clean up with metal polish. I find the inside tells a little bit of a story about the piece, so have chosen to leave it alone.

Other than the above mentioned patina, this little treasure box is in very good vintage condition. There are no obvious dents, dings, scratches rust, etc.

I've washed this box in sudsy water, but have not polished the brass. I rather like the vintage patina, and perhaps you will too. To retain the richness, clean in sudsy water or with a clean, damp cloth.
