This fabric of this classic 1980's velvet evening/cocktail dress is stunning, and made with a velvet fabric that is black with a burgundy colored cast, depending on the light and angle in which it's viewed. The fabric is embossed in a filigree pattern, with a 3-D material that is either a fabric paint or some sort of synthetic material, but the overall effect makes it extremely rich and interesting. I can imagine that the effects of evening and dance floor lights would have awesome effects on the look of the fabric!

The cut of the dress is very dramatic - the front neckline is U shaped and the back is a plunging V. The skirt is fitted, and there is a back slit at the hemline. The overall look of this dress is fabulously alluring!

There is no set in waist in this dress - it's fitted in the front with princess seams that start at the shoulder and end as darts, and the back is fitted using darts that start about 8 inches below the shoulder seam and end just below the waist. The back closes with an invisible zipper,

Black satin fabric lines the front and back bodice.

The inside label states that it's made by "Alex Evenings, size 6, 63% Acetate, 33% nylon, hand wash cold water, Made in USA. RN79283".

Sleeve length from shoulder seam to cuff - 22" (~56 cm)
Bust ~ 38" (~96.5 cm)
Waist - ~ 30" (~76cm)
Hip - ~ 35" (~89 cm)
Hem circumference, (w/slit closed) - ~ 30" (~76 cm)

This dress has been gently worn - the condition is very good to excellent - no stains, wears, tears, holes, odors, mildew, etc.
