This is just one of my many fabulous estate acquired rag rugs. As is with all of them, they were made and kept by a lady from Virginia and southern Maryland, and who lived to the age of 100 years old! Her grand-daughter-in-law has shared that she stopped making them in the 60's, so most will be antiques. I believe this one was probably made in the 1940's or early 1950's.

This particular rug is crocheted with solid cotton fabric in bands of soft pastels. Though still clear, the colors are soft and slightly muted with age, but not the least bit dull. (Photo #3 shows the reverse side)

Colors from center to the outermost edge are:

Mustard
Light green/mint
An orange and cream blend that I call "orange peel". It's a very interesting and pleasing effect.
Light sky blue
Clear pink
Sea blue/green (aqua)
Soft coral
Lavender
Milk chocolate
Light fuchsia/violet

The colors would compliment any style decor, including cottage or country styles, traditional, transitional, Shaker or early American homes, as well as kitchen, bath, summer kitchens, and recreation areas of Victorian homes. It would be especially charming in beach, country, or mountain homes and cottages decorated in vintage decor.

I'm not sure if this rug was ever used, but if it was, it was used lightly and there are absolutely no signs of wear. The fabric is still strong and intact, with no thinning or weak spots, etc. I've washed this rug, and while old, it's now sparkling clean and sweet smelling. There are no odors, stains, catches, tears, holes, and so forth. There are a few loose threads on the fabric edges, which is typical for rag rugs. I've not clipped them because some people care for this characteristic. I'll leave it up to the buyer to decide whether or not the stray threads stay or go.

Round in shape, measuring 34", (86.5cm), across.

To clean, hand wash in cool water. Rinse well, machine spin, lay flat to dry in a well ventilated area, (out of direct sunlight).

Shipping quotes are for insured USPS Priority mail and includes insurance. US quotes are based on west coast delivery - I'll refund any difference to other locales, if applicable.

*Canada and international - for shipping savings, I can mail packages by USPS 1st class mail, so please let me know your preference upon checkout, and I will refund the difference. I promptly mail within 24 hours, and sometimes the same day, so unless otherwise requested, your package will be sent quickly and via Priority mail.

*International destinations - quote here is for Priority insured mail, based on Australia delivery, and is estimated. UK and EU destinations will most likely be less, and I'll refund any difference.

**Please note that the Post Office cannot insure international 1st class packages, so keep this in mind when choosing your shipping method.
